You mangled the punchline. by SuaveRedSalami 2003-12-19 20:37:53
It's "What do you mean we, paleface?"

Ok. We want to kill animsls, becaue they're really useful for food and other products. We justify it by saying that they're not sentient like us, so it's okay. But some of them are awful cute, so we tend to anthropormphize them a bit, and so in spite of our early justification, we feel bad for the cute ones and decide that it's less okay to kill them, even for useful things like food or fur. That's just the way I see it. Royal we.

I think that if it's hideously immoral to kill an animal for art... then it should be immoral to kill that same animal for most other reasons too. We think killing human is bad, whether we use the corpse for anything doesn't enter into it. I'm not seeing how making use of the corpse makes the actual killing morally okay. If the life of an animal is really so important, than surely it outweighs a our desire for spiffy-looking mitts, or chicken pot pie. After all, we don't *need* either of those things.

I'm not trying to accuse you of hypocrisy, I'm just trying to explore what justifications we really have for our moralizing about animals.
