Ray was in management. He was affiliated with the leadership, not the grunts being shot by Pinkerton agents.
And Ray is as far removed from the actual events of 100+ years ago as Miko is from the Catholic scandals. I believe (hope) Soldier would not think Miko - being in an entirely different sect of Christianity - had anything to do with the actual priests involved, or the leaders who tried to cover it up.
The only reason Miko might take offense is the (perceived) implication that _all_ Christians are somehow culpable in child molestation. Which is the only reason Ray might have felt that way, too. Unless Ray is ignorant of the events, in which case he'd be like a typical American Patriot defending Bush. Er, sorry, got sidetracked.
Heck, I can even see a railroad grunt getting upset by the joke, simply because he invested 30+ years of his life in the business and here is some guy trying to demean his chosen profession by giving unasked for and inappropriate reminders of nasty events that he had nothing to do with. But that would be an opposite case, as opposed to what we have. |
