I was raised on Meat+Veggie+Potato+Bread & Butter. People have been doing this for years, especially in the midwest. I think it goes back to all the farmers and settlers needing a robust meal. And from then it's more habbit, you grew up with it and assume it's a good healthy meal. It's kind of like how most people end up useing the same laundry detergent/fabric softner/dishsoap that their parents use.
