Suckage: is it objective or subjective? by NOLAWitch2006-11-19 12:55:59
  I replied yesterday. by DeaconBlue 2003-12-19 11:10:50
Looking back at it now, I cringe. I knew I had a bad headache, but I normally don't make that many typos. Oh well.

Any way, I'll repeat my statement from yesterday, regarding music.

When referring to the actual skill of the musician, the technique, playing ability, etc., these are measurable things. You can say, objectively, that a musician sucks on that level. For example, I suck at playing piano. I've never had a lesson in my life, the little bit I can do is self taught.

When referring to the artistic appeal of the musician, it's entirely subjective. No-one's tastes are going to be the same. What I like, you may think sucks, and vice versa.

There are artists whom I think suck on an artistic level (subjectively), but whom I thoroughly respect for their talent.
