| BV. The incidental health effects are exagerated, overly much so. I agree about the stench but, the perfume some folks wear is just as bad if not worse. Stench isn't a valid complaint. Bernouli's laws of gaseous dispersion also makes the second-hand smoke argument moot. I might also point out that not every smoker dies of lung cancer or any other cause directly related to smoking. The most famous example of that is George Burns.
But, I'm not here to argue that issue. I'm merely pointing out that smokers are getting more than a little enraged with civil rights encroachments. They're citizens too and they have as much rights as you do, including warmth and shelter while engaging in legally permitted activities. That you think it's a bad habit is strictly a personal opinion that, whilst shared with others, is not germane to smokers. How would you like to be told that because of the stink of your feet, you are not allowed to wear sandals inside a building. I don't see that as being any different.
Don't you think that if it was really as bad as the AMA propoganda makes it out to be, tobacco would have been made an illegal substance long ago? All they have are corrolaries. The have no direct evidence that could be used in law. Note that I am NOT arguing the evidence or even whether or not smoking is unhealthy. I am simply pointing out the situational psychology. Your approach is simply wrong and will cause massive political polarization. I say this to all the anti-smokers, beware of backlash and don't be surpised when it happens because you've asked for it. |
