<warning>I am not a smoker. I have been a smoker. I am heavily biased against smoking.</warning> Smoking is bad for america and the world for teh following reasons: Health effects: Each cigarette has been estimatred to take 7-11 minutes off a smoker's life second hand smoke is dangerous to the health of smokers and non-smokers alike Smoking by pregnant mothers has been proven to cause lower birth weight and slower lung development nicotine is a poison carcinogens abound in cigarettes and their byproducts Pollution Trash and littering Everywhere there is an allowed smoking area, there are butts and detrius I have often seen smokers dump their ash trays out their doors on the ground I often see butts thrown out the window Air Quality smoke stinks second hand smoke is an irritant and has a lingering odor Smoke lingers and can discolor or permanently enscent(is that a word) items and people loss of productivity I have worked places where "smoke breaks" took at least twice as long as alloted breaks and occured more often Health issues causing missed work Increased health care premiums For treating of self-induced disorders caused by smoking Enphasema, Asthma, etc... asthma and respiratory distress of non-smokers detrimental effects on children exposed to second-hand smoke since medical premiums have oto pay for these issues, and we all share a burden of the cost.. smokers are costing us all money Tobacco is a huge export of America It has been proven that Tobacco companies tried to make their brands MORE addictive and the list could go on and on
