if you know how to use them.

Now there are math packages like Maple and Mathematica that can use symbolic representations internally, so they really remember things like "two third", "the square root of two", and "pi". But even those have limitations to what they can represent, and besides, their calculations tend to take long enough to allow a missile to approach.
