when he wants to. Leading up to this mission, he was invited to my (then) Institute to give a talk about the project. Beagle II has about the diameter of a bicycle tyre, and can easily be carried by two persons. The US probe is practically the same contents wise, and weighs about half a ton. He did stress this a couple of times, albeit in a typically dry understated british way. Also, he repeatedly mentioned that if everything was to go well, they'd be there first, and there was nothing NASA could do about it.
