| After they've been in production a while (years), you don't dare let them cool down. The bearing grease they use, gels into something resembling the consistency of casting resin when it cools. They'll not restart unless you apply a mallet to a strategic part of the drive case. The is universally known as the Seagate drive sticktion problem. What's worse, they actually fixed it but refuse to use the fix on their lower cost models. They also refused to acknowlege the problem and refused to RMA my drives (15 of them) because it was not a recognised problem. This problem has been extant for more than 10 years!
For this reason I will never buy Seagate. Maxstor/Quantum make good drives, as does WD. Older HP drives are actually Quantums. |
