that is just the current range of the tech. The way the bluetooth website sells it (www.bluetooth.com) it is ment to become a short range wireless communication interface similar to USB or firewire. It is only a matter of time before data other than sound signals, or contact info is transmitted. Look at the PDA. When it first came out it was nothing more than a glorified organizer, now it can play video, etc.
