What part of "the conversions are certainly more logical" troubles you? I later mentioned that some USians consider metric arcane, which it certainly can be if you consider that the meter is now defined as the distance traveled by light in a specific medium (or lack thereof, I forget) in an arbitrary, possibly irrational "fraction" of a second.

I also believe that certain USians find the concept of bathing arcane, but I won't speculate as to whether the two sets are necessarily identical.

After being raised with the ability to use body parts and such to roughly estimate distances 1:1, I've already admitted I have difficulty grasping distances with any precision in metric without doing the conversions in my head or looking at a measurement device. Since I've memorized most of the Imperial conversions, and a few crucial Imperial<->metric ones, I don't really have a strong preference. And I can see why it would be better to teach metric at an early age, though retention will be a problem as long as government and business continue to reinforce Imperial elsewhere.
