If she decided without his imput, then he also has a right to decide one way or another what his wishes are in that matter.
If he wants to be involved in the child's life and upbringing, then yes, he should participate finacially as well.
If he wants no part of it, then I don't think he should be held responsible for a decision he was not allowed any part in.
Of course, if they choose to stay together the point is sort of moot unless they separate at a later date, because people living together pool resources in anycase.
