Having spent spent more time in the US than I care to recall right now, I don't think the level of service is any different to here in the UK. The one thing you do get more of is interruptions to your meal asking if you want anything (No thank you, I'm eating) to try and get a larger tip. Frankly I'd rather be served by someone who knows that they'll get paid a fair wage and that anything extra is a bonus, than someone who makes less than the burger-flippers at McDonalds and relies on begging to eat. Sales people my butt. I'm buying a meal not a car.
