First, the President is not a dictator or monarch, he cannot create laws on a whim--the law in question was first passed by both houses of Congress, Bush simply signed his agreement.
Second, I don't know where you get that it "hasn't allowed an out for a woman who's life is at risk". From the text of S.73 as passed "This subsection does not apply to a partial-birth abortion that is necessary to save the life of a mother whose life is endangered by a physical disorder, physical illness, or physical injury, including a life-endangering physical condition caused by or arising from the pregnancy itself." So it most assuredly does allow for that situation.
If you want to hate Bush, fine, but (a) make sure you hate all the Congresscritters who voted for this bill and (b) make sure that you actually know what you're hating him for. The text of all bills before Congress and their status can be found at the Library of Congress. |
