particular father. Realistically, it is the woman that has to carry the baby to term. He has nothing to do with it.

Consider the situation where a woman gets sperm from an anonymous donor. I don't think that you would hold the father responsible for bringing up the child in this case, would you? And yet the only two differences are, that the woman indicated the choice to get pregnant (with donor sperm) and whether the father is known.

With an unplanned pregnancy it is still possible for the woman to choose whether to carry to term. So the difference is very small there. So why should the fact that the woman knows who the father is obligate him to support the child?
