the financial value of a partner who died due to malpractice has been calculated for compensation purposes, I don't see any reason why the 'cost' of having a child can't be calculated in a similar way.

It's not exactly my idea of fun though.

Anyway, several medical insurance policies pay out x amount on pregnancy - I know mine does.
(Very cheap risk for them though, I'm not very likely to get pregnant!)
