There's the rub.

If you never want to [die in a car crash/get pregnant], the only way to assure that is to never put yourself in the situation where that can happen. If you want a reasonable expectation of never [dieing in a car crash/getting pregnant] then you use the proper safety equipment and "drive safely". But you can never have 100% assurance that you won't [die in a car crash/get pregnant] unless you avoid [cars/sex] altogether.
