bunches.
And according to Webster's (via dict.org),
metric, adj. [...] of or pertaining to the decimal system of measurement of which a meter is the unit; as, the metric system; a metric measurement.
So metric is decimal. Certainly more so than 12" = 1' = 1/3 yd = 1/5280 mi.
As an American raised on Imperial (thanks in part to archaic Catholic school policies), I definitely don't find the exact measures in metric intuitive, but the conversions are certainly more logical. And my vision correction changes so much that I've never been able to judge size very accurately anyway.
For the real reason, it's supposed to be humorous. A "bunch" is not a specific unit that I can find, regardless of measurement system. It's like saying "a metric arsload." (By which I of course mean the number of people currently on this board. I don't know why people are smirking.) It's generally more amusing to USians, who often consider metric arcane to begin with. |
