In Michigan... by nelzie 2003-11-06 09:04:26
...if the woman is going to attempt to get ANY kind of State Aid, if of meager means.

She must produce the Birth Certificate. If a Father's name is listed on the official documentation, the State of Michigan will do EVERYTHING in its power to hunt the father down, even if he lives across the country and they will compel him to pay child support, even with wage garnishments. They will do this, even if the woman moved as far away as possible from the man due to an abusive environment.

Although, I suppose they might waive that requirement if the woman is able to provide ample evidence displaying that it would be extremely dangerous for the father to know where she and the child is.

I don't know for sure, because I had only heard about the beginning of such proceedings with an ex-co-worker. She moved to Michigan to get away from an EXTREMELY abusive ex-husband who had threatened to kill her for divorcing him and she attempted to get State aid for one of her children... I left that company before the whole thing finished itself.
