| Three years ago when I met my SO, she could barely navigate the net on her own. Since meeting me, she's managed to become quite adept at troubleshooting her own problems. She goes beyond the stereotypical "doesn't seem to get it" user and rather than arguing with me about how something she says wrong is stupid, she brings up valid reasons for her belief in that. ie) "Well, I keep calling the hard drive memory because that's where the computer REMEMBERS things!" To make things better yet, she's never asked me the same question twice.
Yesterday was a priceless moment though.. she shares her computer with two roommates and one of them constantly uses her printer/wastes her ink. She uses the admin account, and her roommates use the guest account. So I figured I'd look up some security policies to disable printing on the guest account. Unfortunately, the only instructions I found were useless.
Anyway, she calls me up happier than happy in the middle of the afternoon.. "GUESS WHAT! I fixed my problem!" Me still being sick with a fever just grumbled "wth?" It turns out that she had just set the printer to pause in the administrator account, and it couldn't be unpaused in the guest account. This of course gets better, though... The guest account can't delete print jobs either, so now she has proof of the fact that her roommate is trying to use her printer.
Very happy day for me.. she actually came up with something I'd never even thought of, and it works perfectly. That's why I had to post this, I'm so proud of her. Besides, she's probably going to read this post and I'll score brownie points too. =) |
