An Issue of Responsibility by Illiad 2003-11-06 08:30:47
All of the discussion regarding abortion the last couple or so days brought to mind a hypothetical that is, sadly, not all that hypothetical.

Say two consenting adults get together and have sexual intercourse. Say the woman is on birth control pills and the man is using a condom. Both agreed beforehand that they don't want a child together, and in fact don't want children right now anyway.

For whatever reason, it turns out that the woman gets pregnant by the man despite the precautions taken. The woman decides to keep the child without inviting input from the father. The question: is the man fiscally responsible for the child?
