Got a helmet, by pecosdave2003-11-06 06:20:41
I forgot to mention the Snell Foundation by JohnClarke 2006-11-19 12:55:59

The DOT standard is the minimum--helmets have to pass it in order to be sold.

The Snell Foundation was testing helmets long before the governmnent got into the act. It was founded after a fellow named Pete Snell who had a lot of friends and fans died as a result of helmet failure. His friends and fans got together and put together an organization to test helmets in order to help others avoid Pete's fate.

Their tests are generally more stringent than the government's, and any really decent helmet will have both DOT and Snell approvals.

Near as I can tell the Cirus has DOT but not Snell approval, other HJC models have both--look for a "Snell M2000" sticker.

I should have said something sooner and I feel bad about telling you this after you've bought.
