What is being made illegal is a group of medical procedures which are used to end a pregnancy. Partial birth abortion is a made-up term that most closely refers to dilation and extraction. That procedure is used most often to end pregnancies in which the fetus is viable only by technicality in that it has a life expectancy of 6 hours to 1 week because it lacks all of its brain except the brainstem. Forcing the C-section or inducement of such an infant on a woman is vicious and cruel and done so in this case only to further the ultimate goal of the right to make all abortion illegal.
