I needed to know who Hume and Goldsmith were and how literature and history related to each other in this time period (unfortunately, my knowledge is mostly in 1810s and this is up to about 1790 - I think I'll bring in novels as history anyway in class). I'm pretty sure I've got it all figured out now (French=Reason, English/British=Hume (who did ... something ... thank goodness I wrote it down so I don't have to remember it), Germans="Volk" and ... some German word for spirit that lead to ethnography (but my readings didn't say that)).
Anyhow, long story short, I'm done now and going to bed. Life looks *almost* manageable every time I finish something. That said, I have 4 weeks to do 5 essays, mark about 20 essays, and write my thesis proposal, plus weekly readings (slightly more than 3 books per week) and book reviews for class, and preparations/reading/marking for tutorials (damn weekly assignments).
Damn, now I'm depressed again. It's a darn good thing I enjoy history or I think I would have to go do something drastic to stop the pain (like quit the Master's program!).
Oh, so ultimately my in-class presentation for tommorrow has nothing to do with farm machinery and little to do with wars. Thanks again for the offer (and the interest) though! You should have a good day, too. |
