One problem with the electronic voting machines is that they can be tampered with at the polls, and there is no way of rechecking to see if the count actually represents the wishes of the voters. There are some issues with the screen graphics drifting from the sensitive areas that can lead to a miscount as well.

The consensus of the experts I've been reading is that there is no good replacement for a paper ballot.
