The linksys allows you to set up a pass through mode for one IP address. You redirect the protocol. In my case, I told it to redirect ports 21-23 to 192.168.1.101, the address of the linux box inside. It works fine for ftp. If you ftp to the linksys's address (linksys does NOT support ftp) you end up on the linux box. It just doesn't work for telnet.

In the new scenario, the linux box is raw to the internet. There are no host allow/deny statements. That, in itself, may be a problem.
