Networking help needed by bordertech 2003-11-03 12:50:32
I've got a customer that is having an issue trying to connect to another networked device. This problem occurs IN ALL BUT ONE of the PC's on this LAN. All the PC's are running Windows XP Pro. When they try to connect to this particular device it will take up to 60 secs to connect to this device. When they initally create the connection in the morning they don't have a problem. It only happens when they have been idle for 30 or more minutes.

They are using Micorosoft Windows Netorking to connect via Mapped Drives using UNC path to the IP address. So, there doesn't seem to be an issue with resolution. When they do connect after the delay there is no problem with disconnecting and immediately reconnecting. Also, if one PC connects and experiences a delay another PC will connect and also experience a delay. There does not seem to be a problem with the PC's trying to connect to each other. They are using a Netgear 10/100 switch and all PC's have their Link Speed setting set to Auto Detect. The only real difference I saw between the PC that does not exhibit this problem and the ones that do is that the good PC didn't have a drive mapped to this device at all. So, I disconnected the mapped drive from one of the problem PC's and had him try to connect after an hour of being idle. He still had that problem. The PC's are all on the same subnet.

Any suggestions?
