Translation: We'll keep this war up as long as it's convenient, which may well be forever. Any time we want to attack another country, it's part of the war on terror; any restrictions on freedom at home and any cuts of public spending can be explained with having to fight terrorists; anything bad that happens can be blamed on the terrorists. It sounds rather too nutty-conspiracy-theory to say that that's the thinking behind it, but it does seem to be working that way, to some extent. |
