If someone is a newbie to linux and you point them at things like Slackware and OpenBSD, it's quite likely that you will turn them completely off linux right away. If you actually care about spreading the open source principles and not allowing M$ to have a pure monopoly in the OS world, then how about you actually consider the advice you give in more than terms of what you know. I have used everything from BSD to Slackware to Redhat to HPUX. I would be very careful about what I suggest to a new linux user. Anything else would just be being a jerk. KS
