what that one might of been is sun java likes at least 2G freespace to compile. I suggest blackdown java. Xscreensaver... not sure why that one would bork but it's not good that python did. Python and perl should go in fine... alot of things seem to use both those languages. Umm screensaver errors... how much ram does your machine have? Depending on the amount of ram you may need to choose a lighter screensaver. Chooseing the wrong one will lock up X if your machine doesn't have much ram.(I had this problem when I ran with only 64M ram) Gnome should of went ok but it might not of liked that python didn't go in right. I've just finished the emerge system on my box... and it's humming along. I've left it with a rather long emerge/linux command line so it will be busy for a bit hapily installing packages without me hovering over it.(the odd package needs me to turn on something like firebird I think needs a specific flag but other than that it should be mellow)
