How to research a neurosurgeon by SnappingTurtle2003-10-22 20:25:25

they should have one of those in the US also they should have a neuro surgeon society. What type of back surgery is it? If it's a spinal fusion tell him to be very very careful. One doc talked a friends wife into it. She went for it thinking it would help her mobility and pain... she was very wrong. She lives day to day on an IV morphine drip. She found out after that at least 360deg spinal fusions of the time period she got hers done were risky and most times weren't worth the risk. I have microdisk(in my lumbar spine) and I could get rod's implanted in my spine... I wont do it unless it's a last resort but that has to do with the fact I've also got arthritis in my spine.

Your friend should look up on the net on medscape or NIH info on his moms specific condition. Usually they have studies and such and honestly say risks of things. The docs there are in thinktanks and it is a very professional place... I don't think quacks dispense the info there tho who knows the odd one might read it. If the doctor is clueless in how he's handling this fellows moms case... switch docs. Spines are dangerous things to be messing with. Also hopefully they've given her the full risks info. I know some of them from my daughter and her brain surgery and also spinal proceedures she had. She could get meningitis, suffer some numbness and other issues.
