A thread resurrection - voting pre-requisites by JPaganel2006-11-19 12:55:59
Wasn't it Thoreau who said... by The CruftMaster 2003-10-22 14:48:32
"...A common and natural result of an undue respect for the law is, that you may see a file of soldiers ... marching in admirable order over hill and dale to the wars, against their wills, ay, against their common sense..."

Yes, I know that his point was that one should follow their conscience over what the law says, because it is just possible that the law is wrong, et cetera, but my point is that a mandatory military service in order to vote basically makes sure that no one has a say in things until the Powers That Be have had a chance to condition them. To take this to an absurd extreme, "Anyone can have a say... after we brainwash you to say what we want."

I come from a line of military men, and I've yet to see one of them come back from service as independant as they were before.

Ok, I've rambled enough...
