I though your response to GPs post seemed too harsh. Maybe I was wrong, who knows let's bury that one.

Political ramifications on this are huge, but once again we are dealing with the same courts that flubbed the 2000 elections. IMO the legislature COULD be responding to what they percieve as judicial activism. OTOH they may be responding to the radical religious right. I see this one going to SCOTUS and eventually being settled there, whether the body is still alive or not when all is said and done or is allowed to perish/continue I am unable to form an opinion on.

Depending on whose side you listen to they are both right. If there is 0 chance of recovery let her die. (though please some other way than starvation/dehydration) If there is a chance of her recovering and the husband is unwilling to go through this any more with her; he should divorce her and get along with his life. If $50k means that much to him he really needs to re-evaluate his priorities.
