I know that a firewall is only the first line of defence. That was what the sarcastic "Oh, the horror(!)" was about.
Virus scanner? We use Avast. (http://www.avast.com) The free version, of course.
As for the PS, the XP firewall opens ports for Microsoft programs (MSN Messenger, anybody?), and I wouldn't be surprised if someone managed to trick it into thinking a program was M$-apporoved when it wasn't.
Smoking something illegal? I think I might remember doing something like that...
You're glad? Well, good for you. Now put yourself in my shoes (Someone only after a little fun, who deactivates something because it's p*ssing him off and interfering.), and walk a mile or two.
I've learnt - Cover my tracks, frame someone else, expect parents to overreact. Not listening would have been hard, considering the decibels involved. Want to add anything?
Oh, and with the whole 'listen and learn' thing, that only works if the person you're listening to really knows exactly what they're talking about, and is calm at the time. She failed on both counts.
Virus scanners have these things known as 'logs'. Thus, they would have found out about it anyway, so I just cut to the chase.
I've had another look at the connections properties. I just love the way they refer to a Wizard in the text next to that button, where they usually put the description. And then I (thinking that I understand Windows standard layout) assume that it *is* the description, and ignore the button because I think its a Wizard for the settings already shown on the page. Nice camoflage.
Now I've picked apart your response, feel free to do the same to mine. Lets see who reaches a megabyte first. |
