Bush is at it again... by Naruki2006-11-19 12:55:59
There I must agree with you. by Llyr2003-10-22 06:36:43
Hey, if something's that important to you, by NOLAWitch2003-10-22 06:55:04
not necessarily by niwikki 2003-10-22 11:12:00
you're making assumptions based on your own personal experiences, as am I. However, my own personal experiences directly contradict your assumptions.

I, personally, would not want to be kept alive if I'm in a vegetative state with no chance of recovery. I also want to donate my organs or even donate my body to science in the event that I die.

I have not put the organ donor sticker on my driver's license because of two reasons: (1) I never got around to it, and (2) having a sticker on the license makes it catch on things when you're constantly putting it in your wallet and taking it out when showing your ID to get into clubs and stuff... so it's inconvenient.

I've also never expressed my desire not to be kept alive in a vegetative state to anyone in my immediate family. Why? because the subject has never come up, and I'm young so I still think of myself as somewhat immortal (i.e. I won't be dying for a LONG time) and the thought of an accident cutting my life short simply isn't a huge consideration for me.

I have, however, told my mother that if I ever *have* to be put into a nursing home, I'd rather be euthanized.

Of course, my mother will likely be long dead once I'm old enough to be in need of a nursing home. And even if she's not, the thought process might be along the lines that when I said that, I was a pre-teen writing a report on euthanasia for my social studies class and my school choir had us going out to sing for people at nursing homes, and it was the most depressing thing I'd ever done... the argument could be made that my mind may have changed in the many years between the statement and when the statement became applicable.

I think it's a fallacy to say that in all cases when something like this is important to someone they would have told everyone in their family about it.

Heck, maybe she thought that telling her husband was all that was necessary and she didn't want to burden the rest of her family with it, thinking that the situation likely would never arise.
