urgent: Windows XP question by FireballMatt 2003-10-22 10:31:21
Ok, its been awhile since I've had anything to do with winxp pro. However, my job has taken a new twist, and I will be traveling more now. My company does not support linux in any way shape or form...and many of our intranet pages require IE to view. I wiped my laptops gentoo install and installed a dual boot of XP Pro and Gentoo. Gentoo runs like a dream as always, but XP has been giving me these weird hiccups.

I've run Windows Update countless times and have every cricital update, and just about every non critical one. However, for some reason it will randomly freeze on me. The screen doesnt go blank or antyhing, the computer just freezes...the mouse refuses to move, ctrl+alt+del doesnt work. I've been having to hard reboot it to get any response.

Has anyone had this sort of trouble before? I remember when I ran XP on this laptop before, it would do this with a fresh install, but when I updated from Windows Update, and dloaded the latest Nvidia graphics drivers it cleared up. Not so this time...any ideas? I really cant work like this...it freezes in the middle of a save, crashes without warning, and its making my life miserable. I'm not getting much work done at all.
