Who do you propose should have the right of deciding whether this person should be allowed to starve to death or be kept alive: the person's husband, or the person's parents and other family members?
The bill that was rushed into law supports the person's parents. Otherwise, the husband's unsupported claim that she said she would want to die in this kind of situation was going to be upheld, despite her never voicing such a desire to any of her other family and the rest of her family wanting to keep her on life support.
Of course, in another article I read about this, it mentioned that the person could be taken off life support if there were *conclusive evidence* that it would be their wishes. Seems odd that they would be going ahead with it even though there is only one person's claim against three others.
Of course, this is a can of worms, and you knew it. The jabs at Jeb Bush weren't even necessary, under the circumstances... :) |
