Check whether there is a Linux driver for the ADSL equipment (don't just look on the manufacturer's web site). If there is, you can set up a linux box which runs the NAT etc.
It can be any old computer - my home firewall for a 512/256 kb line is a Pentium 233, and it has no problems running firewall.
Use a Linux box with a NIC attached to the switch/hub at her place. It can also provide DHCP services, so the housemates won't have to configure anything.
