If we don't want contries to militarize (which usually leads to such actions as Iraq's invasion of Iran and Kuait, or the US invasion of Iraq), shouldn't we discourage the idea of military service as a condition of citizenship. This would lead to countries amassing huge armies, and all too often they would start looking for ways to use them.
