Reposted from the diary and cleaned up from when word hoarked it.
So I've been asked about the meaning of zona, and how I ended up with it.
It's a rather amusing story. Ever since I was online, people kept asking me if I knew the meaning of my chosen name. I only knew 1 meaning; people were helpful and gave me more. So I've started a collection of meanings. Confirmation would be appreciated.
zona is the Latin root of the word zone (Confirmed)
zona is slag for jail in Russian. (Unconfirmed)
zona is slut or whore in Hebrew (Confirmed repeatedly. This one seems to be popular)
zona is the name of the grouping of the stars in Orion's belt (Confirmed with a dubious source)
zona is a disease (Confirmed)
zona is a name, means girdle or belt. Which language is forgotten (Confirmed)
zona is Polish for wife (Unconfirmed)
And how did I end up with this name you ask?
A long time ago, I created an AD&D character and I couldn't think of a name. It was nameless. Until my DM got fed up with not having a name and nameless just didn't cut it. So he threw a dictionary at me, told me to open it, plunk my finger down on a word and take the Latin root. I ended up on the word zone. Plus it's just fun to say!
And now you know.
