Inittab - is the startup file for Unix/Linux... by inittab 2003-09-26 17:52:50
I've always been a computer sort, and tend to know what makes
them tick - even at the lower level when possible.

When a unix box boots, the first process that runs, when the
kernel loads is called 'init' - this process looks at the file
called /etc/inittab, to see everything else that should be started.

of course this is a simplistic description -- see man pages or web for details.
