Unfortunately, none of your suggestions were quite what I wanted.

DELTREE is only for Win9x DOS, so it's out.

The DIR command just wouldn't set the ERRORLEVEL for me.

And RD flat out doesn't do what you guys seem to think. The /S makes it go to all subdirectories (not just empty ones), and the /Q says remove it whether it's empty or not, just don't ask me. In fact, RD/S/Q is what I've been using to replace DELTREE for years now.

I do have a slightly clunky but workable solution. I XCOPY the directory to a new location and then delete the old one. XCOPY has a switch to ignore empty folders. It means I temporarily double the disk space used, but that's okay for now. Thanks again for your suggestions!
