I did read the post where he mentioned 49 letters, but I just assumed he meant characters. Maybe he can clarify this? Also, I considered the possibility that hint 9 meant to reverse the order of the lines not the contents of the lines, but based on your observation that the second letter only shows up once, I was looking for an interpretation of the hint which supported what we already know - when you're working on these things and you get an idea in your head it's quite easy to start reading things into the hints to support that idea even if that's not really what the hint means (I've certainly done that before).
