i swear i posted my response already, but i thought of something else.
two things, in andrej's response to my post above, he says something about 49 letters. spaces != letters, i think he would have said characters otherwise.
secondly, i think the last hint means the lines are backwards, not the characters within the lines. meaning

as for the first letter, the only time i've seen E used as a single word is E Pluribus Unim. i'm thinking the first letter is more likely O as in olde english synonim for Oh. i think.
