I remember having last-minute company over once. Mom stuffed a bunch of dishes in the oven that night. She forgot about them. A couple of days later we were going to have a Bible study at our house. Mom preheats the oven to make lemon bars, and about 5 minutes later my brother informs the family that there's a fire in the oven. That's when we discover a bunch of melted plastic. The lead crystal punch bowl didn't survive, due to a single drop of cold water that we didn't catch in time. Good tips, though!
