Newbie Boss: I want you to assign another report to Bob
Me: Sure, did he publish out the three he was working on last week?
Newbie Boss: Yes. Well, one of them. The other two are being reviewed.
Me: The one he did publish did that one pass the first review?
Newbie Boss: No. He had to redo the whole thing
Me: Hmmm, do you think it's a good idea togive him another one? Afterall this is only his second week here, he's even greener than you are.
Newbie Boss: I want him to have another one, that way we can see his breaking point
Me: Isn't that irresponsible? We're talking about proples lives here, if the clients don't get the reports in time the loan might not go through, or if he doesn't do a perfect job the underwriter will kill the deal.
Newbie Boss: Listen, I have over twenty-three years in the manufacturing industry...
Me: And just over three weeks of appraisal supervising. All your experience may mean something for setting up systems, but it means nothing *thinks squat* when it comes to this arena, you never produce the same product twice, you can't put a cookie cutter to this business the way you can in manufacturing.
Newbie Boss: Listen, I just want you to give him another report, if he gets too far behind and can't get it done then we'll deal with it then.
Me: *think I better get that in writing* Sure, I'm on my way out for a minute, can you email me that request so I don't forget?
Newbie Boss: Okay.
Me: *sucker* |
