Bush only cares about the environment as far as it will get or keep his votes. If they can spin it enough, they'll pull maximum profit out and damn the future. He won't be in office anymore. It's that CEO outlook for quarterly reporting (in this case 4-8 year outlooks).

... environment is one area where I am very "liberal" and it is definitely a voting trigger point.

... but I have also seen some pretty short-sighted "eco-friendly" laws that fail to address the real or back issues or end up making things worse because the incentive or money didn't exist to clean up the grandfathered/old technology. (AAAGH! run-on sentence alert!) ... thus -need-more-information-
