Repost of Linux USB Prob question from yesterday by compubmw2006-11-19 12:55:59
  ok I'll elaborate by celticess 2003-08-26 00:19:44
your kernel hopefully has both uhci and ohci compiled in as modules if not your going to have to learn to compile a kernel ... anyways

there are two types of USB one is UHCI and the other OHCI. If one driver doesn't work the other likely will. "modprobe" just says "load this driver" and the driver you want to load is either "uhci" or "ohci"

So open a konsole window, xterm or whatever is your terminal of choice. Su to root and then type at the # prompt the following

modprobe uhci
modprobe ohci

and that should cause the modules to load.... now for to make the load all the time if they aren't compiled into the kernel you will need to type another command... I'm in win2k at the moment so can't look it up in a terminal under "man modprobe" Also part of the problem might be beyond those drivers it might be there are no mass storage usb drivers installed in the kernel as well.

Also it helps sometimes to unplug things then plug them back in. Linux will then notice hey there is a new thing there ... and that might wake things up and label it/assign them. Of course if all else fails you can use dmesg
