This discussion started, I think, because Dragonfire744 took exception to my labelling of the protester as an "arrogant prat." I stand by that description, because I consider the protester's attitude to be xenophobic and exclusionary. Dragonfire [him|her]self said that s/he could find no compelling reason to disallow civil unions for same-sex marriages.
I'd also like to point out that your second-to-last line is untrue.
If gay couples are indeed banging on your church doors demanding equal rights, tell them to sod right off. They have no right to dictate church policy, just as churches have no right to dictate policy to secular groups.
My irritation with the protester who was quoted isn't blinding me at all Dippy. I'm fully aware that I've shut him and his group out, but only in response to him doing the same first. If they were to approach this issue with an open mind, I would do the same.
He didn't, so I see no compelling reason to do otherwise. |
