| No early classes
I can't tell you how many people I knew who scheduled 8 o'clock class their freshmen year. I laughed at them and told them what would happen. They laughed and said they could handle it. They weren't laughing at the end of the year. Everyone goes a little crazy their first year, try to keep it in check, but unless you are super duper ultra responsible early classes will ruin you.
Make a friend in any class you skip
Many people have said never skip class. Exellent advice, but personally I found that unrealistic. If you are intelligent, you will have classes you could pass in your sleep (Health, CS 101 etc.) Even when I told myself I wouldn't anymore, there were still just some classes I couldn't bring myself to sleep through every day.
That said, be smart about, make a friend who can warn you about moved test dates etc. Show up every once in a while to make sure things are still going as expected. Never trust the teachers website. I've had teachers that were great at keeping all the assignments updated on their website, untill the last month. That almost cost my friend a passing grade, luckily our final project rocked.
NOTE: The precceeding advice is bad. I got some bad grades because of it. On the other had I passed several classes with A's, and about a 10% attendance rate (just enough for tests, handing in homework). Use at your own risk,
Guidance Councilors Suck!!!
This may not be the case at every school, but the councilors at mine sucked. The messed up my schedual several times. Read the requirements on your major, and make up your own schedual. Then take it in and let the coucilors double check it. Don't trust them to do their jobs correctly. You will regret it if you do.
Schedule sacrifical classes
I always scheduled redundant classes. The reason is some teachers are !@@#$holes, and some are just crazy. I had to schedual Eng 102 four times befor I could find a sane teacher (I had one that was cursing at some poor deaf student). If you schedual redundant classes you can drop the ones you don't need a lot easier than getting into a class after the fact. Just make sure you drop the ones you don't want in time to get your money back.
Use a blow tube
Not saying that's your kind of thing, but if it is, do it. If the hall outside your door smells springtime fresh, and your neighbors smells like a Jamaican reunion, guess which one is going to attract the most unwanted attention?
Have fun
The "real" world sucks. Have a blast while you still can.
